non responsive steering

hello all,

I just got an 85 4runner, and the truck has a problem with the steering not responding very well. Driving at 30mph the steering system tends to be less responsive, and it gets worse as i drive faster. It becomes frightening to drive it on the freeway. Can anyone help me?

Are the tires and suspension stock?

Power steering? If so have you checked the PS fluid?

I was hoping you would reply...

Yes, i have check the powersteering fluid and gears. Fluid is good and up to level, and I have tried bleeding it as well. I have also check the powersteering gear box for leaks or external damage and found nothing. Also, the tires and suspension are stock. Though, i found several worn grease boots, can this be the cause?

Have you checked all the steering linkages. From the wheel down to the steering box?

Yes, all the linkages are in good shape. The only thing I see broken are several grease boots.

Is the truck lifted? Whats size tires? Id check to see if the steering stabilizer shock needs replaced.

The truck has stock supsension and stock tires. I haven't check the steering stabilizer yet; how would I know if the stabilizer needs replacement?

you would have to take to shock off. If you compress it and it doesn't push back out then the shock is shot.
