4wd not working

I have a 1992 4runner auto. 4wd that when locked in 4wd the front wheels will turn when jacked up or on machanics rack but when it's on the ground the front wheels will not pull , what could cause this.

Does it have manual hubs or auto hubs, or the ADD 4WD system? ?

Since the ADD doesn't use any hubs, I guess you or a PO added them.



So either your ADD actuator isn't working for some reason, you're not locking your manual hubs, or the manual hubs aren't working.

Thanks for advise, we bought it as it is now. The hubs are manual locking hubs, so apparently someone put them in prior to us buying it, you're saying with ADD system it would've had auto locking hubs?

The manual hubs do lock so maybe it is the ADD that's the problem.
