Just bought a 1989 toyota pickup

I just have a few questions. First toyota i have owned. It does not have a rpm gauge so i went and bought one and i was curious where is the best place to mount it by the door or under the dash. Second question what are some good upgrades for this truck its got the 22re in it. I was looking at the k&n intake kit they make for it but i just wanna get the best bang for my $$$. Ideas and thoughts are most welcome and some pictures of the mounted rpm gauge and intake systems would be great thanks.

I have a small 60mm guage mounted on the cover for the stearing assembly and a shift light in the corner of the dash. I will try to take a pic and post it tomarrow. I paid 19 bucks of ebay and they were display units. I had to research the instructions and found out the parts were over 200 bucks new.

Just get a k&n for the convenience of cleaning it.

dont bother with a whole system. if you want any increase in power(and very little), swap the intake to the spot where the battery is at.

you could always do this..

Sounds cool, little bit more jam, you wont notice a hp difference between the stock plastic intake and an aftermarket aluminum one.. The plastic one is flattened in the center between the fan shroud and valve cover to clear the hood - so anything aftermarket is going to me small as well.. You can swap the plastic elbow clamps to silicone or whatever for a smoother flow..

The battery / intake swap isn't a bad idea either, but you'll also not notice a huge difference in performance with that.. Especially compared to the filter on the maf swap that's common.

And swap your gauge cluster for a non-base cluster that has a tach in it already.. cleanest way to do it.

skip the K&N filter. it's not going to make a difference in power. skip everything except the timing chain service, or, just swap in a 4.3 chevy v6. really, make the truck as comfy and quiet (inside) as you can and enjoy the reliability. you'll not get any power out of the 22re without throwing a turbo and mega $$$ at it.

welcome

^ solid advice .. Being realistic my motor has almost 3 grand thrown at it, and makes maaaaaybe 15 hp over stock.. I'd do the intake that I did again just for the sake of getting the filter further away from water.. That killed my first motor ..
