Hey guys!
So i'm about to install an HID kit (Mod-Express 6000k)http://www.mod-express.com/Mod_Expre...p/me-k5011.htm and i have a couple questions before the time comes.
1) I want to retain Hi/Low beam control so I believe I need the Bi-Xenon option...is that correct?
2) Do I need a relay harness in this case to protect the electrical?
3) Best options to mount ballasts and what not....I've seen everything from velcro to epoxy but i'm just wondering what ppl here think.
4) Good suggestion for a step by step for Gen 4 Camry HID install would be appreciated as well!
Thanks!

Do you have projectors? If not you can't do it.

what type of aftermarket headlights are we talking about? Depo clears or just NON-toyota? what hes gettin at is that you really loose a lot of the light from the HIDs in NON-HID housings, you can also cause a lot of glare. which in some states they can ticket you for. a projector retrofit is the best way to go, but it is time consuming and can be expensive, but it is the best use of HIDs. NOW, i had HIDs in the OEM headlights on my 97 and the output was acceptable (make sure the shroud is on the bulb!!!). there was not a lot of glare once i reaimed the lights and i never had anyone tell me they were too bright.
to anwser your questions...
1) yes, bixenon...on a side note, it sounds weird when going from hi to low, there is just a magnet that angles the bulb (i had the SAME kit on my gen4), but it makes a thumping sound when you switch.
2) a relay couldnt hurt but IIRC the kit comes with fuses.
3) try to mount the balasts under the headlights, i cant remember if i was able to or not on teh gen4 but it ws a good place away from heat and water.
4) Velcro is KING, get the heavy duty stuff from a hardware store and it will not only hold fast EVEN verticle, but it can get wet, hot, cold and not dry out and fail. in addition, it provides great vibration resistance!

First thanks for the reply! I have a set of TYC Clears, but I've always wanted to do a projector retrofit although, like you stated, it's a pain in the A$$ to pull off. I really wish the Gen 4's had the aftermarket housing choices available to the 3 and 4.5! In reference to the use of a relay i've heard that it also helps to avoid the disco flicker, is there any truth to this claim? Oh and I'm planning to go with 6000k for just a hint of blue haze w/o dropping lumen output....sound good?

I had exactly same bi-xenon kit from Mod-Express mounted in OEM (and one TYC) housings for H4. glare was not tragic but was there (visible on highway when looking at sign above road).
anyways, take the relay harness and it will be a plug and play install. you will only need to use ONE OEM lamp plug (cover the other securely).
find proper grounds for ballasts, negative battery terminal is good for driver side, but passenger side is tricky. learn from my mistake and do NOT use the fender mounting bolt for ground (it will corrode FAST).
I placed the magnetic switch between battery and fuse box, I actually velcro'ed it to the side of main fuse box.
as above, make sure you have the shrouds on bulbs and see if they are not bent.
I velco'ed the ballast to firewall (by fender) on passenger side (by ABS if I had it) and the other one I velcro'ed to the battery (maybe stupid, but it worked).
NOTE, you will loose the high beam lights indicator on dash once you install this (and any other) kit. you will never see the blue indicator light on dash again, so be careful in which setting keep your lights or you will be blinding tragically.
NOTE on velcro I used (household 3M white from grocery store), the glue got melted (those 35W ballasts get damn hot) at some point eventually, and after 9 months it was NOT holding anymore, so ballasts started sliding off the mounting locations.
great man great ideas i like it for my car and love it like a fan so your work is appreciate able and in the last i would like to thank you dear for sharing it with us so nicely hid installation
